How to create CIFS Share on a Unified VNX

Creating a CIFS Share

1. From Unisphere, click Storage, Storage Configuration, File Systems to create a file system.
2. Click on File System tab and Click Create

3. Enter in File System details in the Create File System dialog box and click OK.
   
   

4. Click on Storage, Shares tab and Create hidden share
   

   
5. Choose datamover, Enter in System Share name with the hidden share symbol on the end and select CIFS Server, Click Apply and OK. By creating the hidden share, you prevent users from seeing quotas on folders in the share they do not have access to.

6. Browse to share from Windows Explorer - <\\CIFS_Server\Hidden Share>. You will see two root folders, the .etc folder and the lost+found folder. Create the folder you want to share out. This is what you want your users to see on this level.

7. From the Computer Management MMC console, select Shared Folders and right-click Shares. Browse to the folder you just created in Step 6 and create your share.

8. Your Unisphere console should show the new share.
